A Prehistoric Criminal Case: We know in detail what the Iceman ate and also the diseases he suffered during the last hours of his life. But the world's oldest wet mummy is still full of mysteries. Scientific investigations have not yet been concluded. This sensational find made in 1991 in the mountains of the Ötz Valley has provided us with a crucial piece of the puzzle regarding our past. The Iceman - together with his clothing and equipment - offer a unique insight into the everday life of a Neolithic Man, his environment, and his extraordinary ability to adapt to it. The South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology presents these forensic findings in an exciting exhibition.
More than 60 mummies, several archaeological findings and precious ritual objects, together with the results of the latest scientific research, provide a fascinating insight into mummification, a phenomenon encountered worldwide and throughout the course of human history. Visitors will be taken on a journey across continents, different environments and cultures - from dinosaurs to Ötzi, from Ancient Egypt to the present day.
