Museums in and around Merano...
The PARISH CHURCH OF ST. NICHOLAS
The church was built between 1310 and 1455 and its tower, the landmark of the whole town, heightened in stages until it reached its present height of 80 mts. in the C16th. There are some very interesting frescos in the tower entrance, sculptures and paintings inside the church itself and old gravestones behind the building on land which served as the town cemetery until 1848. The C15th. Barbara's Chapel, once a chapel of rest, lies to the east of the parish church and was restored between 1995 and 1999.

Merano Kurhaus
The splendid Liberty-style Kurhaus, in a very central position along the river promenade, was built at a time when Merano's fame and fortune were at their highest point and it is the architectural jewel of the whole town. The first classic-style Kurhaus dates to 1874 and houses conferences, balls, festivals and all the other events and antertainment organised for guests of the era. As the number of people visiting Merano each year grew. it was soon deemed necessary to enlarge the building and the work on the new Kurhaus, designed by the Viennese architect Ohmann, was started in 1912 and finished two years later in 1914. The Kurhaus was, at those times, the first building in town to have electric lighting. It has recently been completely restored.
