Tappeiner Trail: a leisurely stroll on the discovery of the spa town
Walking the Tappeiner Trail: unforgettable views of Merano/Meran
The Tappeiner Trail takes you above the rooftops of Merano / Meran, leading from Gratsch to Mt. Zeno and the powder tower. The highly popular Tappeiner Trail is named after Franz Tappeiner, botanist, anthropologist and doctor from Val Venosta who opened a doctor's office in Merano / Meran and financed the creation of the Tappeiner trail. The first section was completed in 1893, the second one in 1911 and the third after the war in 1928.
From the Tappeiner Trail you enjoy a wonderful view of the town and the Burgraviato / Burggrafenamt. Furthermore the path impresses with its highly diverse and predominantly Mediterranean flora: pines, cork oaks, agaves, aloes, opuntias, palms, magnolias, olive trees and many other plants line the romantic Tappeiner Trail, making of it a truly unique walking experience.
Some of the plants growing on the Tappeiner Trail are marked with signs and descriptions, informing you about local plants, while gently strolling across the woods. Visit this popular promenade in Merano / Meran during your holiday in Hotel Bavaria and let the sheer endless diversity presented here inspire you!
