Merano Theatre – architectural jewel by Martin Dülfer
Merano Theatre was inaugurated on 1st of December 1900 with a performance of Goethe's Faust. Today it is one of the most impressive buildings in Merano / Meran. At the end of the 1870s when Merano / Meran became increasingly famous as spa town and tourism flourished, Martin Dülfer, a Munich architect, was given the task to plan the Merano Theatre.
The classicist facade with Art Nouveau elements impresses with its gigantic pillars. The interior of Merano Theatre is kept entirely in Art Nouveau and offers a splendour beyond comparison. Today the Theatre with its orchestra pit is used for theatre performances and concerts. Furthermore there are film performances, readings, cabaret and many other events. Enjoy the venues in one of the stalls, on a cosy loge seat or on one of the terraces - the Merano Theatre offers a total of 292 persons.
